If you’ve been anywhere near Boston’s fitness scene in the past year, you’ve probably heard the name Battista Bootcamp. What started as a small Saturday morning group workout has now turned into a movement bringing together hundreds of people for high-energy events that fuse fitness, community, and lifestyle. Behind it all is Darren Battista, a coach, entrepreneur, and the driving force behind one of Boston’s most buzzed-about fitness experiences.
We caught up with Darren to talk about his journey, the growth of Battista Bootcamp, his newest addition Ritual, and the community-first mindset that fuels everything he does.

Q&A with Darren
1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you first got started in fitness?
My passion for fitness started in athletics, which always drove me to be in the best possible shape for my sport. Once that competitive aspect of my life was over, I knew I still wanted to engage in a career path that challenged me and brought about that competitive nature. Fitness became that for me entering my college career and I decided to go all in.
2. You started out as a personal trainer—what made you decide to expand beyond one-on-one training?
I have a deep passion for one-on-one training, but I always knew I was meant for more than to solely be helping one individual at a time. I wanted more. I wanted to have an impact on as many people as humanly possible. That is where the creation of the Battista Bootcamp virtual app and event series came to fruition.
3. What inspired you to launch Battista Bootcamp, and how has it grown since the early days?
Battista Bootcamp started as an experimental small group fitness class where I brought a group of 17 women to a facility called Big Night Fitness in Charlestown, MA last April. After receiving positive feedback from the group, I continued on with the class concept until it gained enough traction where I needed to increase the frequency and look into bigger venues. Since then, we have expanded into throwing 200+ person events at entertainment venues across Boston.
On the virtual side, what started as 15-20 clients has grown into a virtual coaching program of about 200 members across five coaches. We handle everything from your training program to your nutrition tracking/meal planning, completely tailored to your individual goals.
4. How does it feel to now have a team supporting your vision?
It is a feeling I truly can’t describe. My team means the world to me and I couldn’t be more grateful for the energy, support, and passion they bring to every one of our clients and events.
Huge S/O to Jamie Hines, Ally Lindsey, Garrett Magill, and Sam Batchelder. Battista Bootcamp isn’t what is is without all of you.
5.Tell us more about Ritual!
I founded Ritual earlier this year with my co-founders Colin Powell and Brendan McLaughlin. We felt the Boston fitness event space was missing a wellness/social offering on a recurring basis. Ritual is a bi-weekly wellness social consisting of Pilates, yoga, and bootcamp classes along with an afterparty based around networking and recovery. We have gathered 400+ attendees at every event to come get fitter, meet new people, and start their Saturday AM the right way. I couldn’t be prouder of the growth of the Ritual brand this early on.
5. Battista Bootcamp is known for its big energy and strong community vibes. What makes your events so special?
We prioritize PEOPLE. We care for our clients and attendees more than anything, and that has always gone such a long way. We prioritize making each person that enters our program or events feel like a somebody, and furthermore a better version of themselves. I am proud of the community-first attitude this team brings every single day.
6. When you’re not running workouts or training clients, how do you recharge?
I enjoy spending time with friends and family more than anything. I love being around my people and enjoying quality time with them. I will also shamelessly plug Sweathouz here as I LOVE sauna/cold plunge on my off days.
7. Lightning Round ⚡
